Valentis, Inc., a biotechnology company, focuses on the creation of cardiovascular therapeutics and associated delivery systems. It develops products for peripheral arterial disease. Peripheral arterial disease is a vascular occlusive disease of the lower extremities. The company has developed a series of technologies, including gene delivery and expression technologies, and proprietary formulation and manufacturing technologies that enable the generation of therapeutics to treat a range of diseases. Its primary products include VLTS 934, a Phase IIb testing anti-inflammatory drug; DEL-1, an angiogenic protein that promotes the formation of new blood vessels; and Deltavasc, which is a Phase IIa clinical trial completed investigational product that incorporates the DEL-1 gene to stimulate new blood vessel growth. The company also has 10 products in development by licensors of Valentis’ various technologies to treat infectious diseases and cancer. In addition, it offers contract services for process development and manufacturing, which include microbial fermentation, protein/MAb purification, plasmid DNA purification, process scale-up, and bacterial genetics. The company has research and development collaborations principally with Roche Holdings, Ltd.; Boehringer Ingelheim International GmbH; Eli Lilly & Company; and Glaxo Wellcome plc.
